Ohmygod, I am SO progressive!

Like any sane person, I am annoyed with self-righteousness and false pretension. The individuals who embody these traits rarely have anything new or remarkable to say, they merely love the feeling of superiority and will go on and on about how amazing they are. You know the kind, especially if you live here in Madison. Ugh. But there is a new species of butthead out there that I just can't tolerate anymore. It's the new breed of snooty snobs, the "I was raised by open-minded liberals, therefore I don't have to question anything. Oh and also, I'm way more progressive than you because of it" philosophy.

A typical belief within this subculture of idiots would be; because my parents questioned authority, religion, and the government, I don't have to. They did all the work for me. But isn't this just as bad as being raised by the OPPOSITE of so-called progressive parents? If your parents taught you that it isn't pragmatic to believe in God or heaven, aren't you the same as someone as who was taught God and heaven are the absolute truth? Isn't it the same damn thing? A good parent allows you to make choices for yourself, and respects your values and beliefs, so long as they make you happy. So if someone was raised an atheist, but decides to have faith in God as an adult, shouldn't they earn some credit for going outside of what they were taught and for figuring things out for themselves? It seems like when someone raised with religion decides to reject it in adulthood, we tend to embrace them for using their own minds and being "radical". Kind of a double standard if you ask me.

These are the same people who judge me for my name, saying "Oh cool, your parents must have been hippies". It's like I'm destined to act a specific way or believe certain things because of it. Ya, maybe they were hippies. But everything I believe has been a result of MY experiences, not because they taught me what to think. Just because someone was raised with progressive values doesn't mean they shouldn't ever question what they were taught. Because then you just come across as arrogant, and no one likes that shit.

No words

As many of you know by now, Dr George Tiller was murdered in his church this weekend in Kansas. I can't really find the words to express my anger of this tragedy, but wanted to acknowledge it in my own way. This world is seriously fucked and I'm growing more and more spiteful towards religion every day. Domestic terrorism just happened, folks. Ugh, I can't write about this anymore.

A better version of me.

New blog. New content. New way to vent.

On my way to work, I was stuck behind a pick-up truck donned with two blaze orange stickers on it's rear window. The first sticker read, "Huntin' chicks by day, huntin' deer by night. I score deep in the woods". The second sticker read, "Ditch the bitch. Let's go huntin'!" Now, I should mention that just last week, I saw a sticker on the back of a Jeep that read "Put the bitch in back, Jesus rides shotgun." I can only assume that both these drivers are hiding their rejection from women behind visibly macho and sexist statements. Instead of people figuring out they're huge pieces of shit, they make it seem like they're CHOOSING a life of deer hunting and Jesus. The whole "bitches ain't shit" mentality is derived from a place that is bitter and ignorant, and it's pretty obvious what's going on here. I always wonder who the hell manufactures those stupid decals, anyway. GO TO HELL, I say. Middle fingers UP! You have no power over me.
